SUSTAINABILITY
OUR VALUES
Style and sustainability are not mutually exclusive. One Puram will always be environmentally responsible and ethically and morally thoughtful. We want to place people, communities and the environment at the heart of our design and manufacturing processes and have started as we mean to go on.
Conscious style is our core belief. We believe clothes should be valued and treasured and the skilled artisans who are part of our team should be paid fairly. We encourage our community to buy responsibly, look after their items and re-wear the pieces they love as often as possible. Sustainability is something we believe should be innate to any clothing brand and we see this as a duty to the environment and it's something which is in line with our personal morals and ethics. We also want to create interesting styles and stand by our belief that prints can be re-worn again and again and we should celebrate re-wearing and re-using clothes we love without any stigma.
To combat over-consumption and offer exclusivity to our customers, we produce small quantities of garments. This reduces our deadstock and wastage.

OUR FABRIC SELECTION
All of our garments are made from 100% TENCEL™ fibres. Lenzing is the supplier of certified Tencel ™ otherwise known as lyocell which is a fibre harvested from wood pulp. Working with an official certified fabric supplier ensures that the production has been ethical, the wood has been sourced from sustainable forests and that the production process has been carried out in a closed loop process. A closed loop process ensures there is minimal water waste and chemical solvent seepage into the environment as 99% of the water and solvent is reused.
TENCEL ™ is luxuriously comforting on the skin. From its hypo-allergenic qualities to its cooling capabilities, it is the perfect fabric for warm and humid climates. Our fabric can have many different drapes and feels, such as linens, voile, canvas, sateen and twill.
Being produced from 100% Tencel ™ fibres means the fabric is biodegradable requiring no special conditions at all and will take 12-22 weeks to revert back to nature.
Emulating TENCEL™ closed loop production methods, we aim to repurpose our scrap and deadstock fabrics in our own circular practice, by saving them for future projects.
OUR TRIMS AND FINISHINGS
We use either shell buttons from Bali or corozo nut buttons, also known as ‘vegetable ivory’ which are sourced from Tegua nuts grown on trees in Panama. Being organic, they are fully biodegradable.
We hope to continue on a journey to source as much as we can locally and reduce our carbon footprint as we progress.
By 2025, we aim to find a solution to avoid using synthetic elastic, zippers or labels within our clothing which are not 100% organic, natural and biodegradable. We know we can do better and will strive to improve on our base principles.
OUR PACKAGING
We are now using POLLAST!C TM packaging for your online orders.
We’re sure you’re aware that our oceans are drowning in plastic. Our packaging partners, Better Packaging Co., are doing something about it. They are rescuing plastic pollution that is mostly likely to end up in our oceans and recycling it into POLLAST!C TM instead.
We’re really excited by the amount of impact we can make by this switch to mailing satchels made from 100% ocean bound plastic pollution collected from coastal communities throughout Southeast Asia. The bags are also carbon neutral. Please recycle them with soft plastics.
Our clothing tags are made from laminate-free paper and attached using pandanus string (organic plant fibres). We hate wasteful business practices so we will wrap your garments in tissue wrap leftover from our launch before it goes in the POLLAST!C TM mailer.
ONE TREE PLANTED PARTNERSHIP
We care deeply about the planet and creating a business that gives back to nature. That’s why we’re thrilled to share that we’re partnering with One Tree Planted, to plant 2 trees for every item sold.
Trees clean our air and water, create habitats for biodiversity, contribute to our health and wellbeing and create jobs for social impact. We’re honored to have reforestation through One Tree Planted as an integral part of our business model.
One Tree Planted is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to global reforestation. They plant trees to restore nature and biodiversity. They also raise awareness about the importance of trees, offer businesses like ours a simple sustainability solution, and motivate younger generations to do something positive for the environment.
Sustainability is at the core of One Purams pillars of belief and we want to have as little negative effect on the planet as possible.
